Do you think that Necromancy is a different ability from Resurgence? The VooDoo Queen necromancy allows her to raise and control the dead, but Misty just raises the dead and they appear to follow their insticts/will.

Exactly what I was thinking. Necromancy is control over the undead aka zombies and Resurgence restores life and literally ressurect poeple/animals. Thanks, the specifics tend to confuse people, I just wanted to see if any one else agreed.
Yeah it seems like they are a bit different. Misty just seems to be able to resurrect the dead and perhaps heal them. Necromancy was what Marie was practicing and perhaps even Zoe when she commanded the zombie to go back to death.
I've looked into the origins of the two words and necromancy is: The user's magical abilities around manipulating the dead, death, the life-force and/or souls for good(i,e, ressurecting the dead[aka what Misty does]), evil(in various ways[Marie Laveau's juju]) or in simply neither; Users can also use communicate with the deceased - either by summoning their spirit or rasing them bodily - for the purpose of divination, imparing the means to foretell the future events or discover hidden knowledge.
In other words Marie Laveu, the Voodoo Queen and Misty Day, the girl on fire are both necromancers, but of different lines.
The meanning of resurgence is:
1. A continuing after interruption; a renewal.
2. A restoration to use, acceptance, activity, or vigor.
Examples resurgence are: Myrtle resurgence from the dead(3x05 Burn, Witch, Burn!), Pepper's resurgence from space(2x10 The Name Game) and Hayden's resurgence from her time of absence(1x02 Home Invasion).
.You seem to be missing the distinction of the two. Necromancer do not have the power to ressurect the dead and bring them to life.
"Necromancy /ˈnɛkrɵˌmænsi/ is a form of magic involving communication with the deceased – either by summoning their spirit as an apparition or raising them bodily – for the purpose of divination, imparting the means to foretell future events or discover hidden knowledge. The term may sometimes be used in a more general sense to refer to black magic or witchcraft"
In the present day, necromancy is more generally used as a term to describe the pretense of manipulation of death and the dead, often facilitated through the use of ritual magic or some other kind of occult ceremony.
A Necromancy grants control over the dead and manipulation. However the state of the deceased minion remains the same, Dead.
Resurrection, which this show is fancifully calling "Resurgence", is the power to bring a dead person back to life. Restore them to their former state of living. Resurrection does not result in a mindless zombie, if done correctly.
So they are not the same at all. Both are distinctly different powers.
This is pretty clear cut to me.
necromancy includes manipulation of life force and control of life/death, in other words resurrection
Necromancy by definition does not include control over life. A necromancer can not control life force, that notion contradicts the etymology of the word - "necros" latin for dead body and "mancy" for divination - The Divination of Dead Bodies.
It simply is a magical craft that grants control over the dead, nothing to do with life.
Refer to the link for a more in depth explanation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Necromancy
Hey guys, I just wanted to say that I always see people calling Misty(totally love her!!! she has to date Kyle) a necromacer(http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/11/12/stevie-nicks-american-horror-story-coven/). And as a wiccan i can say that I haven't heard of anything such as power of resurgence.
And for all I know necromancy is want she does too
As a portuguese natural speaker and a writer I have to say that for all I know the sufix "mancia" means control over(like piromancia(control over fire). I talked to my portuguese teacher and she said that she sees necromancy as the magical ability to raise zombies AND give back life to a former dead being without any damage to it's capacity of thinking or acting on it's own.
PS: I wouldn't trust wikipedia at all, also, the definition I posted it's on the brazilian dictionary(i just translated it)
