I think with what happened last night the producers were nodding towards Stephen King's Carrie with the abusive religious mother and Luke being trapped in a closet, I think it's likely that he's a witch.

I agree with the theory that Luke is magic and Joan is this religious freak who try to suppress her son's power.
That just doesn't make any sense to me. If she's a witch, surely she knows about the Academy. Why move to a house next to a witchcraft academy? Maybe she does have a Salem bloodline but the one's that is magic is Luke instead of her. That will explain why she has no idea about the Academy and fate brought the Ramsays to be the Coven's neighbor.
Why would she NEED to know about the academy if she was a witch?
She might be a witch from another bloodline - the academy is for descendants of Salem but Murphy stated that there are other lines/covens out there (and some of them include male witches).
Even if she is part of the Salem bloodline, the "witch gene" doesn't show up in every girl or in every generation; Zoe's the first in her familty since her great-grand-mother, so it's very possible that the "witch gene" skipped a couple of generations and she had nobody to tell her about the academy; she probably had a strong religious upbringing and freaked out when she discovered about her powers, trying to suppress it through religion, and perhaps Luke has shown powers as well and she's trying to suppress it as well ("cleansing" him, etc).
Of course this is speculation, of course this doesn't have to be true, I'm just pointing out that you can't rule out the possibility that she is indeed a witch.
Hell, perhaps they moved there BECAUSE Luke's power awakened and there were people who witnessed it in their old neighborhood.
I'm just confused. Why live so damn near with all of these witches if she wants to suppress her power as a witch?
If is true that Luke is a male witch, maybe when his powers awakened he killed his father accidentally.
Perhaps she is a witch who doesn't want to be one and she moved there so she could take actions against the witches of the academy. I'm still 100% convinced that she threw the acid at poor Cordelia's face.
Perhaps she isn't a witch herself but she knows about them and loathes them and wants to kill them.
Imo the "Joan is a witch and Luke is a male witch" makes more sense at this point, when Nan, Joan and Luke where in the house and there was the shooting, the shooter was CLEARLY aiming for Joan and Luke, Nan wasn't even in sight and he shot (silver bullets which according to Fiona and Cordelia's reaction is a witch hunter thing), THEY were the intended targets not Nan.
After the newest episode we can see that Hank is one sloppy shooter even from the start. He's a mess. Although, I'd love the theory that Hank intentionally fired Joan and Luke to protect Nan so that he will be back in Cordelia's good book,
And yeah, so far I think it's still a question whether Joan is a witch or not. When that scene shows how Joan sets bees on her husband I almost like "damn, HeBrokeStevie was right" because I remember a snippet from The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West in which Elphaba killed a man for threatening the life of her son.
I thought, it might be a cultural reference to the book (Ryan Murphy, if I'm not mistaken, is a fan of the Wicked musical as we can see from his other show Glee).
But then again, Luke said that Joan "put the bees in the car". I find this quite confusing because if she really is a witch why don't she magically set the bees on poor old husband?
It remains to be seen.
PS: I really hope they won't kill Luke so early. At least not until we can see another glimpse of his shirtless body.
I think that it's entirely possible that Hankv intentionally shot Joan and Luke just to cover up the fact that Nan was the intended victim. It would seem odd to the police, not to mention the witches, for a targeted shooting of a girl in her next door neighbors' house in which she had only been twice total - and I think that would be a big red flag for Fiona and the gang if Nan bit it and the other two survived. But shoot all three and it would support the theory of a robbery gone wrong. And the witch hunters, while regretful, don't seem to have a problem with eliminating innocent bystanders. Hank's father mentions the other guy having to kill a maid and a desk clerk, I believe, when they are talking about Hank's murder of Kaylee.
I read somewhere that it has been said that we'll see at least one more burning - maybe crazy religious Joan will go to the stake like crazy religious Joan of Arc.
Even if they kill Luke in the hospital, it doesn't mean that Misty won't bring him back to be Nan's undead love slave. He could take Spaulding's job, and clean the laundry on his washboard abs.
The thing is Ryan Murphy has stated that from now on those who died would stay die ... I hope Luke will be an exception if he's indeed dead.

Nan wasn't even in sight when he shot and when she was fussing over Luke he probably had many opportunities to get a clear shot and yet he didn't shoot.
