Production

Chairman John Landgraf discussed the upcoming season at the FX's TCA executive session. "The concept for Season 11 is one story," Landgraf said. "It actually takes place in different timelines but it’s one subject, one story, with a beginning, middle and an end, like many of the prior stories." [3]

Landgraf confirmed the eleventh season of the venerable anthology horror series will premiere in the fall, with a press release later announcing the premiere date being October 19, 2022.

Filming began on June 14 in New York, with the cast spotted wearing 1970s clothing.

Indiscretions about themes and storylines began to circulate already in the first weeks. Purportedly taking place in the 1970s-80s exploring settings already introduced with the Netflix limited series Halston in 2021 and potentially also the theme of the upcoming rumored fourth season of American Crime Story about the infamous Studio 54. [4]

The release of the first teaser trailer hinted at the AIDS crisis among other themes, such as homophobia, self-acceptance and a good dose of serial killing with the tagline claiming that the season takes place in the city's "deadliest year."[5]

Casting

According to sources, those returning for Season 11 include several familiar faces, including AHS alumni Zachary Quinto, Billie Lourd, Isaac Powell and Patti LuPone. Also, part of the cast of the new installment is Sandra Bernhard, who appeared on another Murphy-produced FX series, Pose, another Murphy regular, Joe Mantello, who was in two Murphy projects, Netflix’s Hollywood and HBO’s The Normal Heart, as well as Charlie Carver who was in Murphy’s Netflix series Ratched and both stage and film adaptation of the revival of The Boys in the Band, in which Zachary Quinto also starred in. On September 29, 2022, the official social media press confirmed the regular cast by tagging them in the first released posters. They are Leslie Grossman, Denis O'Hare, Isaac Powell, Rebecca Dayan, Billie Lourd, Sandra Bernhard, Russell Tovey, Charlie Carver, and Kal Penn.[6]

Sarah Paulson, who has starred in most seasons of AHS, has indicated in recent interviews that she may be done with the franchise — at least for now. [7] Other AHS alumn Evan Peters, meanwhile, starred in the titular role in another Murphy's project, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which premiered on Netflix on September 21, 2022.
