American Horror Story Wiki

Different users have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can do most things on the site, including reading and editing, "sysops", administrators or simply admins can access a few additional functions.

Who are this wiki's administrators?[]

The current admins are:

The founder of this wiki sadly abandoned it after a single edit, and has not been heard from since 2011-07-21. We welcome their return. Since 2011-10-13, Isaac took over primary operations, and additional admins have come and gone. For an automatic and complete list of users with administrator access, see Special:Listusers/sysop.

NOTE: FlufferBot is an account associated with an automated editing software "bot", typically programmed/controlled by FishTank. It has administrator rights so that it can delete pages.

What is an administrator supposed to do?[]

An administrator is expected to be a community guide, and to empower editors to create the best possible wiki. A good administrator provides content and good feedback and counsel to the editors. Like a museum curator, sometimes that involves managing some articles and other times it involves letting the readers interpret the subject for themselves. An administrator may conduct security to keep you from harming others or spoiling the experience for them. For these purposes, administrators can activate additional functions and can alter areas that typical editors can not.

This wiki also expects its admins to participate in the wiki's decision making process, and to be active editors. Admins must follow the same penalty rules as everyone else. Admins in good standing are authorized to manage (and encouraged to use!) the social media pages (Facebook and Google+). Admins are encouraged to allow incoming emails via Wikia, or to arrange off-Wikia contact arrangements with the senior admin in case of emergency.

How do I use administrator powers?[]

The Administrators' how-to guide details the actual admin functions.

These additional functions include:

  • Deleting and undeleting pages, page histories, and uploaded files.
  • Locking (protecting) a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without admin rights or auto-confirmed status.
  • Blocking IP addresses or user names from editing; and very quick "rollback" of undesirable edits.
  • Editing the interface by changing system messages and skins.

Becoming an administrator[]

Any contributor (with >50 GOOD edits on ANY Wiki) can request to be an Admin. They must have an Admin sponsor who will vouch for them, and 3 yeas from Aldermen.

Frequent contributors to this or other wikis are encouraged to apply, and Admin or Founder experience on other wikis is very attractive. Longtime AHSW veterans (>150 GOOD edits) will get priority.

In the eventual case that sheer apathy has caused this wiki to become an apocalyptic wasteland with no user community, no active leadership, no bureaucrats, no responses on the Boards, and yet Wikia is still maintaining it and you want to claim the barren fields for your own, please contact Wikia for instructions. A therapist and/or spiritual adviser may also be helpful.

What can administrators not do?[]

Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version he or she prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator powers should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. Ideally, an admin shouldn't be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the Wikia community.

Losing administrator rights[]

  • Admins should be prepared to be active. If they have not made an edit or a post for (negotiably) 3 months, they lose admin rights. If they can present a good reason for their absence, they should be able to regain administrator privilege easily.
  • ADMINS ARE EXPECTED TO VOTE. Admins who miss 3 major votes lose admin rights. This isn't the U.S. Congress.
  • Admins must follow the same penalty rules as everyone else, and lose admin status if they are blocked for longer than 3 months.
