1984

1984 is the ninth installment of the anthology TV series American Horror Story. On April 10, 2019, Ryan Murphy announced the season's title on his social media pages. ^[1]

It premiered on FX on September 18, 2019.

Plot

In the summer of 1984, five friends escape Los Angeles to work as counselors at Camp Redwood. As they adjust to their new jobs, they quickly learn that the only thing scarier than campfire tales is the past coming to haunt you.

• First actors to be confirmed by Murphy himself were Emma Roberts and Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy. They will play a couple. ^{[2] [3]}
• Filming is expected to begin in June 2019. Shooting will take place in Los Angeles.
• According to California Film Commission, budget for the ninth season is around $44 million. They will get $8 million for filming in California.
• Sarah Paulson, Billy Eichner, Evan Peters, Denis O'Hare and Cheyenne Jackson were confirmed not to return this season. ^{[4] [5]}
  • It's also the first season without Cheyenne Jackson since he joined the cast in Hotel.
• On July 10, 2019, Ryan Murphy announced on his Instagram account that Angelica Ross, known for her role as Candy in Pose, has joined the cast. ^[6]
• On July 11, 2019, Ryan Murphy posted on his Instagram account a teaser revealing who are the cast members to celebrate the first day of filming. ^[7]
  • John Carroll Lynch, Billie Lourd, Leslie Grossman, and Cody Fern were confirmed to return. ^[8]
  • Matthew Morrison, DeRon Horton and Zach Villa also joined the cast. ^[8]
• Filming takes place at Santa Clarita, California.
• AHS 1984 is scheduled for a September 18,2019 premiere. ^[9]
• The first trailer for the season was released on August 26, 2019.^[10]
• AHS 1984 will have a nine-episode run, with its seventh episode slated to air on October 30th, the eve of Halloween. At any rate, the season is expected to wrap up on November 20th, 2019. ^[11]
• On September 13th, 2019, Ryan Murphy released the title sequence for AHS 1984. ^[12] Murphy revealed that the concept for the title sequence was inspired by an “original 'fan' cut...posted on Twitter.” In fact, Murphy liked it so much that he brought the fan, whose name is Corey Vega, on board to “[evolve] the concept into something major.”^[13]
