Emma Rose Roberts (born February 10, 1991) is an American actress and musician who portrays telekinetic teen witch and former movie star Madison Montgomery in Coven, mystic fortune teller Maggie Esmerelda in Freak Showand ambitious news reporter Serena Belinda in Cult. She later reprised her role as Madison Montgomery in Apocalypse

On February 6, 2019, Ryan Murphy confirmed her return for the ninth season, titled 1984. Roberts portays leading character, Brooke Thompson.

Emma Roberts rose to fame during her stint on Nickelodeon where she played Addie Singer in the show Unfabulous. After her starring role on that hit Nick show, she had roles in many pre-teen and young adult movies including Nancy Drew,  Aquamarine, and Spymate. As she got older, Emma Roberts made a point of shedding her child star image and took on more mature and adult roles, the most intense being her role in the slasher film Scream 4, in which she plays a pivotal character.

Roberts was born in Rhinebeck, New York. She is the daughter of actor Eric Roberts and Kelly Cunningham, the stepdaughter of Eliza Roberts and Kelly Nickels, and the niece of actresses Julia Roberts and Lisa Roberts Gillan. She also has a half-sister, Grace. During her childhood, Roberts spent time on the sets of her aunt Julia Roberts's films. These experiences sparked a desire in Emma, from the age of five, to follow her father and aunts into the film industry, though her mother initially wanted her to have a normal childhood.

She has also dabbled in music but prefers her acting career over anything else.

Early roles

At the age of 10, Roberts began to go on auditions. She was cast as the daughter of Johnny Depp's character in Blow in 2001 and then received small parts in several other films. She attended The Archer School for Girls in Los Angeles for a short time, but she received most of her education through homeschooling and tutoring on movie sets.

From 2004 through 2007, Roberts starred in the Nickelodeon television series Unfabulous, playing Addie Singer, a junior high school student who writes songs about her own life. She also performed on the series’ soundtrack album, Unfabulous and More, released in 2005.
