Rebecca Dayan is a French actress. Dayan is better know for her works as an artist and activist.

Biography[]

Born in 1984 to a non-practicing French Jewish family, Rebecca Dayan began her career in fashion and theater after training in fine arts. Dayan has worked in fashion capitals for Sonia Rykiel, for whom she was also an assistant, Karl Lagerfeld and Ellen von Unwerth. [1] Her acting career began when she moved to the United States. After some small parts, her breakthrough role was Sister Emanuel in the 2017 film Novitiate, written and directed by Maggie Betts. As the film was long in development, Dayan used some of her discussions with Betts as inspiration for her "Assumption" collection that she displayed in 2015 at the Catherine Ahnell Gallery in New York. The watercolors depict images of women as Madonna figures in reclamation of the word "virgin". Various famous women sit for her in modern renditions of Madonna poses.[2]

Receiving positive acclaim from critics, Dayan land two subsequent major roles also praised by critics and audiences. Both roles are depictions of real-life women. Italian designer Elsa Peretti in the Ryan Murphy miniseries Halston in 2019, and French actress Sarah Bernhardt in the 2020 Nikola Tesla biopic Tesla.

Rebecca Dayan raises awareness on maternal mortality in the United States, and women's health generally. She produced the documentary Born Free on the subject and started the non-profit Mother Lover.

Work on American Horror Story[]

Rebecca Dayan joined the cast of American Horror Story in its tenth installation. She played Maria Wycoff, a woman who comes into contact with extraterrestrials in the second part of Double Feature, entitled 'Death Valley'.

Rebecca Dayan then appeared in the second installment of the spin-off American Horror Stories as Dr. Enid Perle, a plastic surgeon with ulterior motives.

Dayan was confirmed to be part of the cast of the eleventh installment of the main series, AHS: NYC. [3] Her role was eventually disclosed via promotional images as Alana with Dayan confirming the character's surname as 'Delarue' on social media.

Notes[]

  • Rebecca Dayan is the second French born actress to be credited in the main cast of American Horror Story, the first being Lizzie Brocheré. Coincidentally, both joined the cast in a season that features aliens.
  • Dayan was nominated "Most Terrifying Performance of the Year" at the 2022 FANDOM Awards for her role as Maria Wycoff, however lost.
