Zombies

Background 

Zombies are humans resurrected through the means of necromancy and voodoo, not to be confused with those humans resurrected by means of certain powers, like Vitalum Vitalis, Resurgence, and/or resurrection spells. The only person that has displayed the ability to resurrect humans in the form of Zombies is Marie Laveau, who brought them forth through the means of her voodoo rituals.

Personality and Appearance

A zombie will take the form and appearance of the person they once were when alive, but he/she will also have the appearance of bodily decay that their bodies have experienced since they died. Those who have died a long time ago will appear less human-like with more wrinkles and less mobility, the sign that they have been buried for a longer period of time.  Marie Laveau is the only character to have raised zombies and did so via her voodoo rituals. Zombies follow the directions given to them by the necromancer that raised them, showing no will of their own, but rather appear as 'puppets' of the person who brought them out of the grave. They can inflict harm on living people, but only heavy fatal blows or spells to return them to their nature as dead bodies (versus their status as 'living-dead') seem to stop them.

Story

Zombies have only appeared twice in the Coven series, in the same episode (Fearful Pranks Ensue). Both times, the respective Zombie groups were brought forth by Marie Laveau through her voodoo/necromancing rituals, where she gave them commands to kill while in her trance-state.

The first time we have seen a Zombie hoard brought forth was by Marie Laveau in 1961, after one of Marie's friends and clients at her salon sent her son to the newly racially integrated schools in New Orleans. Marie's friend's son, Henry, fifteen years old at the time, was riding his bike and subsequently lynched and hung from a tree by white male supremacists. Marie called upon Zombies in a ritual to track down the men who killed the young boy; the zombies, following the orders of Marie, killed the men responsible for the boy's murder. It is unknown how, or whether or not, the zombies (via Marie's ritual) returned to their graves.

Later, we see, in 2013, Marie Laveau, again, bringing forth Zombies, including the daughter of Delphine LaLaurie, to attack the witches at Miss Robichaux's Academy. Zoe took charge to defend the school while Cordelia and Fiona were away at a bar. She was able to deliver fatal blows to the Zombies with a chainsaw, and eventually displayed a new power that stopped the Zombie attack and rendered them "back in their nature" (as dead bodies).
